Conference Objectives

Global:
The objectives of this program are to improve patient care and advance the understanding of professionals, families, and consumers about the complexities of the disorder.
Specific:
At the conclusion of the conference, attendees will be able to better identify, specify, and describe:

  • diagnostic criteria and issues
  • risk factors for self-injury and suicide
  • medical and lifestyle issues
  • medication options
  • family and consumer perspectives and the role of family relationships
  • research-based family education and support
  • past, current, and future research findings and direction
  • treatment issues and options

Course Description

Borderline Personality Disorder: Historical and Future Perspectives is specifically designed to offer those persons whose lives are impacted by the disorder – professionals, relatives, and consumers – a forum to better understand the complexities and issues of the disorder from various perspectives.

Internationally-recognized faculty will be joined by family members, consumers, and advocates to present up-to-date information pertaining to many aspects of the disorder. Day 1 will focus on topics such as criteria, diagnostic issues, inherent risks, medical issues, lifestyle issues, and medication, while Day 2 will offer information on the latest research findings and directions, family and consumer perspectives, and treatments.
